However,\u00a0 anything made of fabric\u2014mattresses, couches, soft furnishings, carpeting, drapes and linens – had to be thrown out. The mold also had penetrated Mr. Guinness’s extensive collection of books. Doorknobs, tile, grout, railings and even the roof had to be replaced.<\/p>\n The problem was a long time coming. It is believed that the mold likely began growing when the house was built in the late 1980s.
